Robert M. Crabtree

Robert M. Crabtree, 84, of Millstadt, IL, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Thursday November 6, 2025, in Belleville, IL. He was born on January 17, 1941, in Granite City, IL to Marion and Lois (Martin) Crabtree and his parents precede him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Dale Crabtree and his nephew, Stephen Graulein.

Crab, as he was known by most, grew up in Granite City, IL and the family later moved to Belleville, IL. He attended Signal Hill Grade School and later graduated from Belleville West High School. Crab was the Superintendent of the St. Clair County Juvenile Detention Center for his entire career.

Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Edith (Steinberg) Crabtree, whom he married on April 11, 1970, in St. Louis, MO; his son, Christopher (Jody) Crabtree; his daughter, Elizabeth (Matthew Levy) Crabtree; his sister, Jane (Bob) Rickard; his grandchildren: Ace Gallagher, Frank Gallagher and Estelle Levy in addition to many nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.

A celebration of Crab’s life will be held at a later date.
