Redman "Lefty" R. Hamner

Redman “Lefty” R. Hamner, 93 of O’Fallon, IL passed away on Tuesday October 12, 2021. He was born in Tuscaloosa, AL on November 18, 1927 to Marshall and Dovie Hamner, nee Rogers and they precede him in death. Lefty was also preceded in death by his daughters; Vickie Schaffer and Cindy Lyons, his sons; James Juelfs and Jeff Wooldridge, his daughter-in-law, Cynthia Juelfs and his brothers; Bud Hamner and Howard Hamner.

Lefty grew up in Tuscaloosa, AL and entered the United States Navy in September 1945, serving aboard the USS Princeton during the final months of World War II. During his honorable service, Lefty became a championship boxer in the Navy. Upon his return to civilian life, he worked in sales, eventually retiring from Miller Chrysler in Belleville, IL. He married his beloved wife, Joyce in Cahokia, Illinois on February 17, 1996. Lefty was a past member of the Cahokia Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 423. During his free time, Lefty enjoyed spending time with his friends and family and especially his beloved dog, Buddy. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Joyce Hamner, nee Foster of O’Fallon, IL, his children; Melvin (Mary) Hamner of Texas, Jerry (Adrian) Hamner of Washington, Ava Wooldridge of Missouri, Buddy Juelfs of Alabama, Sherry (Robert) Clark of Louisiana and Darren “Mike” (Nancy) of Ratcliff, Kentucky in addition to 28 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, extended family and many beloved friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday October 15, 2021 from 5:00pm-8:00pm at Hoffen Funeral Home, 220 W. Washington St., Millstadt, IL. Funeral services will be held on Saturday October 16, 2021 at 10:30 am at the funeral home with Reverend Jacob Ridenour presiding. Interment will follow with full military honors at O’Fallon City Cemetery in O’Fallon, IL.
