Monique E. Fickel-Biggerstaff

Monique (Nickie) Elizabeth Fickel-Biggerstaff, nee Piot, 66, of Belleville, IL, passed away peacefully in St. Louis, MO on Thursday May 8, 2025. Nickie was born on January 4, 1959, in Belleville, IL to Orville and Eleanor (Eugea) Piot and her parents precede her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husbands: Brian T. Fickel and Michael Biggerstaff.

Nickie grew up in Belleville, IL and graduated from Belleville West High School, class of 1977. In her younger years, she worked as a member of the lunchroom staff. Nickie had a talent for fixing all kinds of things and will be remembered as a very creative person. In her spare time, she loved to refinish things and occasionally enjoyed reupholstering furniture. She also was an excellent cook and baker and passed the time puzzling, playing retro video games, especially Wii Bowling. Nicki was a mother to many friends of her sons, never turning away someone in need of a meal or a place to stay. Most of all, Nickie will be remembered as a loving, devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and dear friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons: Miles V. Fickel and Maxwell J. Fickel; her siblings: Sue Glauber, Renee Dahlman, Maurice V. (Margie) Piot and Michele (Mike) Fleming; her granddaughter, Hattie Dawn Moore, her many nieces and nephews, and her special friend and caretaker, Steven Brandon in addition to many beloved friends.

The family will hold a celebration of Nickie’s life at a later date.
