Michael Lee Hornacek, Jr., 56, of Fairview Heights, IL passed away at his home on Friday April 3, 2026. Michael was born on May 26, 1969, in Belleville, IL to Michael and Peggy (Jones) Hornacek, Sr. and his father precedes him in death. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Tony and Eileen Hornacek, his step-daddy, Robert Calvert and his niece, Robin Kitterman.
Michael graduated in 1988 from Belleville East High School in Belleville, IL. He immediately enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and bravely served his country during the Iraq War. Upon his return from service, Michael went to work for various area construction companies. Froese Excavating was his most recent employer.
In his spare time, Michael loved playing video games, and he was a collector of many things. He enjoyed shooting target practice with his friends and had a great time shooting off fireworks each 4th of July. Michael was a member of the Sgt. Charles A. Fricke VFW Post 805 in O’Fallon, IL.
Michael will be remembered as a loving son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and dear friend of many.
Left to cherish his memory is his mother, Peggy (Jones) Calvert, his sister, Peggy (Ernie) Kitterman, his brother, Shawn Hornacek, Sr., his aunt, Roberta Jones, his nieces and nephews: Brendan Kitterman, Shawn Hornacek, Jr., Lacey Huggins, Logan Huggins and Christian Hutchinson; his cousin, Paul (Sarah) Jones and their children Addison and Landon, in addition to extended family and many friends.
A celebration of Michael’s life will be held on Sunday April 26, 2026, from 12:00pm-4:00pm at Sgt. Charles A. Fricke VFW Post 805, 221 W. 1st St., O’Fallon, IL. Please join the family for food and the sharing of memories.
