Michael D. Grider, Sr.

Michael Dale Grider Sr., 73, of New Athens, IL, formerly of Millstadt, IL, passed away peacefully on Thursday March 19, 2026. He was born on June 23, 1952, in Mobile, AL to Charles and Mary Catherine (Hoppes) Grider and his parents precede him in death.

Michael grew up in Van Buren, MO and East St. Louis, IL. After he finished school, he worked in cabinetry and later for ALCOA Steel in Plant City, FL until his retirement. In his spare time, Michael loved to go fishing, bowling and he loved shooting pool. He was the winner of many area fishing and pool tournaments. Michael was a past member of the Millstadt Angler’s Club, and he was a member of several area pool leagues. He could often be seen riding around in his beloved Jeep. In his later years he attended St. Matthew Church in Belleville, IL.

Michael will be remembered as loving father, grandfather, brother and dear friend of many.

Left to cherish his memory are his sons: Michael Dale Grider, Jr., David (Darla Halfacre) Grider and Jason (Janis) Grider; his brothers: Don (Renee) Grider, Chuck Grider and Mark Grider; his grandchildren: Contessa (Quentin) Southworth, Justin (fiancé Beka Mehring) Grider and Eli Grider; his great-grandchildren: Jaxon Southworth, Jace Southworth, Jaiden Southworth, Charlotte Grider and Maverick Grider in addition to his extended family and many beloved friends.

The family will host a celebration of Michael’s life on Friday April 10, 2026, at T.R.’s Place, 4901 Concordia Church Rd., Belleville, IL beginning at 4:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be directed to Millstadt Senior Center, 102 S. Jefferson Rd., Millstadt, IL 62260.
