Maurice Francis Wessel of Millstadt, Illinois entered eternal rest on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at Columbia Convalescent Center in Columbia, Illinois attaining the age of 83 years and 25 days.

Born on September 7, 1927 in Millstadt, Illinois, he was the son of Bernard J. and Anna M. (Weigand) Wessel. He married Dorothy M. Wagner on November 25, 1948 and she survives.

Mr. Wessel was a truck driver, a veteran of the United States Air Force, a member of St. James Catholic Church in Millstadt, a former member of the Knights of Columbus and Teamsters Local 50.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Dorothy Freidman and Geraldine Eads; one brother, James Wessel and one grandson, David Wessel.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Wessel of Millstadt, Illinois; his children, Karen Corwin of Ellisville, Missouri, Glen (fianc, Gwen Etling) Wessel of Terre Haute, Indiana and Christopher (Trisha) Wessel of Millstadt, Illinois; his brothers, Bernard (Pat) Wessel of Encinitas, California and Louis (Nancy) Wessel of Millstadt, Illinois; his sisters, Helen Bechtel of St. Louis, Missouri and Janet Isom of Belleville, Illinois; his grandchildren, Tyler (Kristin) Trenary of Wentzville, Missouri, Nathan Campbell of Ellisville, Missouri, Jordan Corwin of Ellisville, Missouri, Danny Wessel of St. Louis, Missouri, Craig Wessel of Belleville, Illinois, Drake Wessel of Millstadt, Illinois, Dallas Wessel of Millstadt, Illinois, Courtney Orange of Millstadt, Illinois, Mercedes Orange of Millstadt, Illinois and Doug Orange of Millstadt, Illinois; his great-grandchildren, James Tyler Trenary of Wentzville, Missouri, Paige Marie Trenary of Wentzville, Missouri and Makailyn Danielle Summer of Troy, Illinois, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Friends may call on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and on Thursday, October 7, 2010 from 9:00 A.M. to 9:45 A.M. at the Creason Funeral Home in Millstadt, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation and will be received at the funeral home.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. at St. James Catholic Church in Millstadt, Illinois with Monsignor Marvin Volk officiating. Interment will follow in Green Mount Cemetery in Belleville, Illinois with full military honors accorded at the graveside.
