Lula Mae Drewes, nee Pryor, 100, of Decatur, IL, passed away peacefully on Thursday August 15, 2024, in Columbia, IL. Lula was born on March 27, 1924, in Vandalia, IL to Benjamin and Eliza Pryor and her parents precede her in death. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Berriman Carrol and second husband, Delbert Drewes, her son, Jim Carroll, one sister and seven brothers.
Lula grew up in central Illinois. She graduated high school in 1942 and began her working years. She married in her early twenties and started a family. She worked for many years at the Park Hills Country Club in Effingham, IL and later at the Effingham Country Club. In her spare time, she loved to golf and to go fishing. She enjoyed playing cards with her family and friends, especially a friendly game of pinochle or poker. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her beloved family and friends. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and dear friend of many.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Kathy Colyer; her grandchildren: Doug Ralston, Christi (Keith) Nemnich, Natha Green, Emily Rose and Brenda Michalik; her great-grandchildren: Casie (Isaac) Armstrong, Jaclyn Wieda, Caleb Ralston, Jessyca Holeman, Trevor Nemnich, Samantha (Jeff) Montgomery, Dalton Nemnich, Alicia Michalik and Heather Lewis; her great-great-grandchildren: Jett Armstrong, Jeffrey Montgomery, Jackson Montgomery, Devon Lewis, Nicholas Lewis, Ryker Michalik and Kyler Michalik in addition to extended family and friends.
No local services will be held. The family will hold a celebration of Lula’s life at a later date.
Hoffen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
