Leeta Mae Sanders, nee McCollom, 89 of Columbia, Illinois, passed away on Friday, March 15, 2019, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Highland Park, Michigan on October 21, 1929, she married John Sanders on November 24, 1948 and he precedes her in death. In addition to her husband, Leeta was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Linda Mae Sanders, a son-in-law, Dennis D. Daniel and a brother, Herbert McCollom.
Leeta is survived by her daughter, Jonelliene "Susie" Daniel of Columbia, Illinois, sons, Bill (Donna) Sanders of Palm Coast, Florida and Michael V. Sanders of Bonne Terre, Missouri. Sisters, Billie Dean Hernandez of St. Peters, Missouri, Betty Randolph of Herculaneum, Missouri and Mary Jean Howard of Florissant, Missouri.
Her grandchildren; Cherie Daniel of Columbia, Illinois, Tammy Germain of Barnhart, Missouri, Pamela (Mark) Sellers of Columbia, Illinois, Dina (Sam) Smith of Barnhart, Missouri, Amy (James) McNail of Bonne Terre, Missouri, Michael Sanders of Bonne Terre, Missouri, Julie (Ricky) Cain of Bonne Terre, Missouri, Shannon Sanders of Cordova, Tennessee and Christopher and Jason Sanders of Palm Coast, Florida. Leeta is also survived by 23 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren and a large extended family and countless friends who will cherish her memory.
Leeta worked for many years as a tablet press operator for TUMS and was a member of Maplewood Park Baptist Church in Cahokia, Illinois. She was a great cook and loved to bake. When not providing her family with wonderful food, she loved to sew and enjoyed attending church regularly. At TUMS, she was the first female machine operator and when she was done working for the day, she loved to spend time with her family and leaves many memorable experiences.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Dementia Society of America or The American Cancer Society in her name.
Friends may call on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 from 4:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. at The Creason Funeral Home, 220 West Washington Street, Millstadt, Illinois.
A Memorial Service will immediately follow at 7:00p.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Nick Greenfield officiating.
