John A. Clossen, 73, of Paderborn, IL passed away peacefully on Saturday August 1, 2026, in Caseyville, IL. John was born on June 16, 1953, in East St. Louis, IL to August Antone and Ruby Mae Clossen and his parents precede him in death. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Cheryl Clossen who passed away on August 1, 2024; his sisters, Nancy Appel and Jessie Stryker; his brother, Tim Clossen; his sister-in-law, Sharon Clossen and his brother-in-law, Louis Barber.

John enjoyed building race cars with his brothers. He raced stock car races, number 55, for many years. He was also a huge NASCAR fan. In his spare time, he would tinker on cars, BBQ on nice days, garden and he enjoyed vacations to the ocean.

Left to cherish his memory are his brothers: Ben (Denise) Clossen of Smithton, IL, Augie (Brenda) Clossen of Swansea, IL, Bill (Betsy) Clossen of Centralia, IL; his sister, Donna Barber of Pinckneyville, IL; his nieces: Christine (Camron) Vielweber of Smithton, IL, Stef Clossen of Belleville, IL, Evie Mae of Pinckneyville, IL and Lois (Jeffrey) Hamma ; his nephews: Shannon (Samantha) Clossen of New Athens, IL, Roger (Mary) Stryker of Fairbury, IL, Mike (Kathy) Stryker of South Carolina, Tommy (Anette) Barber and Bill (Beth) Clossen of Centralia, IL in addition to man more nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday August 14, 2-26 from 11:00am-1:00pm at Hoffen Funeral Home, 220 W. Washington St. Millstadt, IL. Funeral services will follow at the funeral home with Pastor Larry Ridenour, presiding. Inurnment will take place on Friday August 21, 2026, at 1:00pm at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery in Paderborn, IL. Those attending the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery. Pastor Larry Ridenour will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Rett Syndrome Foundation www.rettsyndrome.org or to St. Louis Children’s Hospital at www.stlouischildrens.org and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
