Darrell Wayne “Catfish” Burroughs, 79, of Fayetteville, IL passed away peacefully on Tuesday May 5, 2026, at home surrounded by his family.
Wayne was born in Hannibal, MO on April 19, 1947 to George Leonard and Kathryn, nee Breckel, Burroughs.
He married Sue Burroughs on August 11, 1967. They lovingly remained devoted to one another for over 58 years until his death.
Professionally Wayne proudly served in the United States Navy and later worked tirelessly as a coal miner and truck driver to take care of his family.
He enjoyed watching old westerns, fishing, his guitar picking but most of all he loved spending time with his family even though he had to raise his hand for a turn to talk.
Wayne was preceded in death by his oldest son, Timothy Wayne Burroughs, parents George and Kathryn Burroughs, a sister Maxine Burroughs, and his best friend and brother Bill Burroughs.
Surviving are his loving wife Sue Burroughs, his four children Sondra Brewer (Tommy) of Lakeland, TN, Danette Blades (Darren) of Mascoutah, IL, James Burroughs (Roscoe) of Belleville, IL and Diana Schroeder (Robert) of Mascoutah, IL. Also surviving are his grandchildren Derek Gravot (Tiffany), Dakota Gravot (Devon), Jennifer Creasy (Blake), Quint Brewer (Rebecca), Austin Smith (Lizzy), Andrew Smith, Leevi Kaspar, 9 great grandchildren, sister Carolyn Riley and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at a future date.
Memorial contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association.
