Carole Lynn “Lynn” Touchette (née Render), age 79, of Belleville, Illinois, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2025. Born on July 20, 1946, to Harold and Margaret Render (nee McGee), Lynn led a life defined by compassion, creativity, and unwavering dedication to those she loved and served.
Lynn was a registered nurse (RN) who dedicated her life to helping others with compassion and professionalism, graduating from nursing school at the age of 19. Over the course of her career, she worked in a wide range of nursing roles, including in the fast-paced environment of the emergency room, as part of a skilled transplant team, and in other critical care settings. She especially excelled in the operating room, where she served with remarkable skill, precision, and grace. Lynn retired as a highly respected operating room nurse, remembered for her steady hands, calm demeanor, and deep commitment to patient care.
Outside of her professional life, Lynn found joy in artistic expression and craftsmanship. She was a talented basket weaver, jewelry maker, and devoted creator of all kinds of crafts. She held a deep love for the American Southwest and was especially drawn to Native American jewelry, which inspired much of her own work.
Lynn especially cherished spending time with her four grandchildren Madeleine, Annabelle, Chloe, and Quintin. She delighted in doing crafts with them, attending their numerous sporting events and theatrical performances, and celebrating every milestone in their lives. She was most proud to be called “Nana.”
On September 5, 1966, Lynn married the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Charles Touchette. Their union was one of enduring love and mutual support, lasting nearly six decades. Together, they raised two children, nurturing them with strength, humor, and boundless care.
Lynn is preceded in death by her beloved husband Bob; her cherished son Michael Benjamin Touchette; her brother Gary Render; and her brother-in-law Darwin Stephens. She is survived by her loving daughter Amy Touchette Brown (Michael); four grandchildren, Madeleine, Annabelle, Chloe, and Quintin; her brothers Greg Render (Shelley) and Alan Render (Mitzi); sisters-in-law Janet Stevens and Brenda Render; numerous nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Mr. Darcy.
Lynn’s legacy is one of service, creativity, and steadfast love. She will be remembered not only for her professional excellence and artistic talents but also for the kindness and light she brought into the lives of those around her.
A private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to a charity of your choice that supports mental health or dementia research.
