William T. Welch

William Thomas Welch, 73, of Columbia, IL passed away on Friday December 8, 2023, in Waterloo, IL. Bill was born on March 21, 1950, in Springfield, IL to James S. and B. Jeanne Welch II, nee Kessler and they precede him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brother James S. Welch III.

Bill graduated from high school in Washington, IL. He then attended Bradley University in Peoria, IL where he graduated with his bachelor’s degree. He worked for Caterpillar Industries for thirty years before retirement. He was an avid music lover. He collected vinyl albums and enjoyed attending live concerts. Bill’s position with Caterpillar allowed him to travel the world for many years and he enjoyed seeing different countries and cultures. He was a self-described “foodie” and especially liked eating at independently owned restaurants throughout his travels. Bill’s grandchildren brought him great joy in life, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 51 years, Catherine Welch, nee Eastman whom he married on April 22, 1972, in Ponca City, OK. His children: William T. (Abby) Welch II and Brett J. Welch, his siblings: John Welch, Mike Welch, Pete Welch, Pat Welch, Mark Welch, Tim Welch, Tom Welch, Julie Welch and Nancy Pruitt; his grandchildren: William T. Welch III, Jane A. Welch and Violet K. Welch in addition to many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
