William Oliver Hilderbrand

William Oliver Hilderbrand, 81, of Columbia, IL, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Friday November 10, 2023, at his home. William was born to James P. and Mary E. Hilderbrand, nee Sheldon, and they precede him in death. He was the loving husband to Margaret Hilderbrand, nee Hale, dad to Todd and Linda Hack, nee Hilderbrand and Gerald and Pam Brennan (pre-deceased, Hilderbrand) and “Pope” to Hannah and Wyatt: favorite uncle, brother and friend to many.

Bill was a trusted owner of Hilderbrand Carpet & Vinyl for over 40 years. He loved his work and took pride in his namesake services. He never advertised, it was “word of mouth” only and he had a thriving business over time. He enjoyed boating and being on the water, especially at Lake of the Ozarks, where the family vacationed with dear friends for many years. He was considered a sweet soul by many as we grew up in North St. Louis County. He employed many of the kids in our neighborhood growing up while they were in high school. He loved to help others out while providing a soft ear, listening to whatever those boys wanted to tell him.

The love he had for his wife, Bunny, was the best part of his life. He called her “pretty little thing” up until a few days before he made his journey “home.” His grandkids brought him so much pride and joy and he made sure they knew he loved them deeply. He will be missed dearly but glorious days are ahead, and we are comforted by his eternal life through the Holy Spirit.

“Festival of Life” celebration will be held at the Hackarosa next year. Details will be announced after the New Year.
