Norman Harold Simmonds

December 6, 1939 — March 18, 2022

Norman H. Simmonds, affectionately known as Stormin’ Norman, of Millstadt, Illinois, entered into everlasting life on March 18, 2022 with his three sons at his side. Norman was born to Clifford and Delores Simmonds in Belleville, Illinois on December 6, 1939.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Shirley, nee Schaller, Simmonds, and his sons, Michael (Jamie) Simmonds, Doug (Kelly) Simmonds, and David Simmonds, and five loving grandchildren, Amanda (Ryan) Wolff, Lauren, Emily, Nick and Hannah (fiance Zack Stancil) and dear great-grandson Nolan Ryan Wolff; dear brother Ronald (Betty) Simmonds and sister, Betty Ann MacAdoo and many nieces and nephews.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law Alma Schaller, two brothers in-law, Walter Schaller and Harold MacAdoo, and sister-in-law Doris Schaller.

Norman was a proud Teamster and Machinist Union member. He was employed by Metro East Automobile dealerships in the Parts Dept and as a Parts Manager. After 30 plus years working in automotive parts, he then began his long-awaited second career as an over the road and local truck driver.

He followed NASCAR and open wheel racing throughout his life and enjoyed attending both college and professional football, including his son, Michael's, games. He looked forward to yearly snowbird vacations and loved the family RV trips, which provided a lifetime of fun filled memories.

Hoffen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A Celebration of Life will be held at future date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Millstadt Senior Center or a charity of the donor's choice.
