Lois Jean Schumaker

Lois “Jean” Schumaker (Reed), 90, passed away on May 26, 2023, in Columbia, IL. She was born January 5, 1933, in Scott City, MO, daughter of the late Helen Reed (Neff) and the late Harry Reed (Muskrat). Jean grew up in Dupo, IL, and was a 1951 graduate of Dupo High School.

Surviving are daughter, Jennifer Mills (Schumaker); grandson, Jason Schumaker; granddaughter, Alissa Fink; step-granddaughter, Kristin Randolph (Mills); step-grandson, Andrew Mills; great-grandchildren Georgina (Jason), Asher (Alissa), and Olivia (Kristin); sister, Janet Henkey (Reed); along with many other relatives and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents, her beloved brother, Donald Reed, and her daughter, Lisa Schumaker-Fink.

Jean was an independent, stubborn spitfire until the end. She worked on the railroad for over 40 years. She loved her family beyond words and would do anything for them. She especially loved her cat she had when living in Cahokia, IL. Jean loved to dance, she loved to watch old movies (especially Gone With The Wind), she loved putting together puzzles, she loved flowers, she loved playing the slot machines at the Casino Queen, and she loved her Dupo High School friends. She will be dearly missed.

Jean will be cremated with no service. The family plans to have a celebration of life at a later date/time. In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be directed to an animal rescue of your choice.
