Lester George Eckert

Lester George Eckert of Millstadt, Illinois entered eternal rest on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Rosewood Care Center in Swansea, Illinois, having attained the age of 89 years, 11 months and 19 days.
Born in Millstadt Township, St. Clair County, Illinois, he was the son of George Nelson and Annie Eckert, nee Werner. Les was united in marriage to Shirley Irene Margaret Vollmer on October 12, 1947 at Zion Evangelical Church in Millstadt, Illinois and she preceded him in death on January 25, 2010.
Mr. Eckert was a World War II veteran, having served with the United States Army. He was confirmed in his faith at Zion Evangelical Church on April 6, 1941 by Rev. A. E. Limper. His memory verse is taken from Psalms 86:4 - Teach me thy way, O Lord; I will walk in thy truth, unite my heart to fear thy name. Les was a latherer and drywall installer in home construction and a member of Zion Evangelical Church in Millstadt, Illinois.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, Shirley Eckert and his brother, Lee Eckert.
Surviving are his children, Steven (Linda) Eckert of Livingston, Texas and Karen Eckert of St. Louis, Missouri; his grandchildren, Matthew (Janet) Eckert of Houston, Texas and Travis Eckert of Bryan, Texas; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Memorials may be made to Zion Evangelical Church, the Wounded Warriors Project or Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be received at the funeral home.
Friends may call on Monday, August 22, 2016 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Creason Funeral Home in Millstadt, Illinois and on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at Zion Evangelical Church in Millstadt, Illinois.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at Zion Evangelical Church with Pastor Darrell Weber officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Evergreen Cemetery in Millstadt, Illinois.
