Joy Janet Jarvis, 87 of Millstadt, Illinois passed away peacefully on Sunday October 4, 2020 in Carbondale, Illinois. Joy was born on May 3, 1933 in Princeton, Indiana to Roy and Mary Hickrod, nee Woods and they precede her in death.

Joy grew up in Princeton, Indiana and was raised by her dear aunt Pearl Gage. She and her husband moved to Millstadt in the late 1950’s when he began working for Chrysler Motors. Joy supported her family by working in the home. In her free time, she loved going out to eat, especially for fried chicken, bar-b-que and a few beers. She loved to relax with a good soap opera but most of all loved spending time with her friends and family. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

In addition to her parents, Joy was preceded in death by her dear husband, Harvey Edward Jarvis whom she married in Shawneetown, Illinois. She was also preceded in death by her brothers; Earl Cleveland, Max Hickrod, Jim Hickrod and her sister, Selma Howell.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons; Stanley (Chris) Jarvis of Millstadt, Illinois and Tony (Debbie) Jarvis, also of Millstadt, Illinois and her daughter, Kristi Jarvis of Columbia, Illinois; and her brother, Fred Gray of Las Vegas, Nevada. Her grandchildren; Jennifer (Rob) Goetz, Leslie (fiancé Don) Jarvis, T.J. (Marta) Jarvis, Haley Jarvis and Blake Jarvis all of Millstadt, Illinois and her great-grandchildren; Olivia and Abigail Goetz and Brody Jarvis.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Millstadt Senior Center, 102 S. Jefferson St., Millstadt, IL 62260 Per Joy’s wishes, her body was cremated. The family will hold a celebration of life at a later date.
