Irene Faye Ortner, nee Vercellino, 86 of Collinsville, Illinois passed away peacefully on Monday January 11, 2021 in Lebanon, Illinois. Born on March 11, 1934 in East St. Louis, Illinois, she was the daughter of John and Mae Vercellino, nee Manning and they precede her in death. Irene was also preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Dale L. Ortner, her daughters; Patricia Steward and Linda Irvin, son-in-law, Dawayne Steward and her sister, Jean Gaskill.

Irene worked for many years as a secretary in civil service. She was an avid fan of Elvis Presley and Patrick Swayze. In her spare time, she loved playing bingo. Irene was known as an excellent cook and baker and was always ready to provide a home cooked meal and great conversation. Most of all, she enjoyed quality time with her friends and family and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Janice (Leonard) Cummins of Collinsville, Illinois, her step-daughter, Karen Docksteiner-Stout of O’Fallon, Illinois, her grandchildren: Regina Steward of Collinsville, Illinois, Amy Irvin of Wentzville, Missouri, Amanda Atwood of Fairmont City, Illinois, Shelley Steward of Collinsville, Illinois, Kelli Bates-Peterson of San Antonio, Texas and James Cummins of Caseyville, Illinois; Irene is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and beloved friends.

Private family services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Feed the Children at www.feedthechildren.org.
